The Budget session of Parliament, initially scheduled to conclude on February 9, has been extended by a day until February 10, as announced by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi stated that the government plans to present a 'white paper' comparing the state of the Indian economy before and after 2014, the year when the BJP came to power, defeating the Congress. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to table the 'white paper' in both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, highlighting the economic conditions during the Congress-led UPA's tenure and the subsequent turnaround achieved under the current government.

The extension of the session is deemed necessary to address pending agenda items such as the Finance Bill, budget discussions, and demands for grants. With these matters yet to be addressed, the decision to extend the session aims to provide adequate time for comprehensive parliamentary deliberations. The presentation of the 'white paper' is anticipated to be a significant aspect of the extended session, offering insights into the government's narrative on economic progress.
